Is multifamily a solution—or a pressure valve?

Rising housing costs and constrained homeownership are accelerating a structural shift toward rental housing. At the same time, multifamily starts are pulling back—reshaping risk, returns, and development strategy.

In our report authored by @Hershy Donath and @Ben Spielman, CPA, we'll examine what this means for investors and operators in the year ahead—and ask the real question:

Is multifamily a durable structural response to housing demand, or a cyclical detour?

Notice 2025-70 answers some open questions—and poses others—particularly around state oversight, spending requirements, and multi-state organizations.

Charitable giving is about to get more expensive—especially if you’re relying on habit instead of planning.

Beginning in 2026, new income floors, revived deduction limits, and itemized deduction haircuts will materially reduce the tax benefits many donors expect. For regular givers, 2025 may be the last year to accelerate gifts under the current, more favorable rules.

Our latest article breaks down what’s changing, who’s most exposed, and how thoughtful year-end planning can preserve the tax benefits of charitable giving:  https://lnkd.in/eDYfWCEP

Each year our entire firm gets together for our annual State of the Firm event, and this year’s took our breath away. The event was spectacular, with 250 team members joined together at our iconic venue – the @TWA Hotel – and another 65 tuning in from the Philippines, Israel, and across the globe.

We got creative with our format this year, featuring raw panel conversations with our department heads and our C-Suite, moderated by our managing partner @Zacharia Waxler. We brought on the uber-talented @Jeff Havens to share his unique business perspective disguised in his clever whit, and he did not disappoint.

2027, we certainly don't know how you're going to top this one.

Huge thank you to all those who made this event as breathtaking as it was:

He did it all by the book—and was arrested in handcuffs.

Registering a high-value vehicle to a Montana LLC is legal in some cases. But when that vehicle is actually used, stored, or garaged elsewhere, the tax follows the facts—not the paperwork. States are ramping up enforcement, sharing data, and treating some cases as criminal, not civil.

Our latest article breaks down how the Montana license plate strategy works, where it crosses the line, and why a high-profile Tennessee case just changed the risk calculus for everyone using it: https://lnkd.in/eBxzV6zc

That “routine” wire to a foreign investor? It may come with a tax bill you never saw coming.

U.S. withholding rules make the payer fully liable when taxes aren’t withheld on payments to foreign persons—distributions, interest, rent, services, even vendor payments. Miss it, and the IRS doesn’t care that the income wasn’t yours or that the mistake was unintentional.

Our latest article breaks down when withholding applies, why partnerships are especially exposed, and how ordinary transactions can turn into six-figure IRS liabilities if handled incorrectly: https://lnkd.in/e\_xuRu7B

Full caseloads don’t guarantee a healthy ABA practice.

Many ABA owners are busy, growing, and clinically strong—yet still struggling with payroll stress, audits, turnover, or cash flow gaps. Good clinical work is table stakes. What actually determines whether an ABA practice holds together comes down to four things: people, compliance, money, and growth discipline.

Our latest piece breaks down where ABA practices most often fall short—and how stronger operators build systems that actually scale: https://lnkd.in/e4d-bxUA

Your gut is not a diligence strategy.

In skilled nursing, long-term care, and ancillary businesses, clean financials and reasonable EBITDA often mask reimbursement distortions, regulatory constraints, and structural assumptions that don’t survive the first year post-close.

Empty office buildings are being repurposed at scale.

As remote and hybrid work reduce demand for traditional office space, developers and cities are pushing office-to-residential and mixed-use conversions to absorb surplus inventory and address housing shortages. The pipeline is growing fast, supported by meaningful incentives and policy support—but feasibility still depends on building geometry, capital, and local execution.

Our latest article examines where conversions work, where they break, and why office-to-residential may shape the next urban real estate cycle: https://lnkd.in/ezUfjXCx
