It can open doors to new funding opportunities, stronger credentials, and greater institutional recognition. But getting there requires more than submitting an application.
There are financial, operational, and compliance commitments that school leaders need to understand before deciding whether accreditation is worth pursuing.
@Yehoshua Pinkus breaks down what it really takes to become accredited, the costs schools may not anticipate, and what saying “yes” can make possible.

Roth&Co was back once again at the Upward Softball Tournament in Chicago, and this year brought out 1,000+ people for a full day of softball, family fun, and some serious competition.
We sponsored the Recovery Tent, where players \(and everyone else!\) could take a break and recharge with massages, IV drips, smoothies, food, and swag for both kids and adults alike.
But the best part of the day is the reason behind it. Upward supports the mental health and well-being of children and young adults in the Chicago community, and we’re proud to be part of an event that brings so many people together for such an important cause.
Congrats to the winning team, @exacare ai and to everyone who hit the field and made it such a great day!
We’re already looking forward to next year!

Improving billing systems. Integrating EHRs. Automating compliance. Developing new patient tools.
These may feel like everyday operational improvements, but some could qualify for valuable R&D tax credits.
And the work doesn’t need to be groundbreaking or even successful to qualify.
@Joshua Bondy, CPA, breaks down where R&D credits may be hiding within healthcare operations and why recent tax law changes make now a good time to take another look.
Could your organization be leaving tax savings on the table?

It’s not really about robots or futuristic shopping experiences. It’s about helping retailers make everyday decisions better.
Which products should be marked down?
What should each location have in stock?
Which customers actually need a promotion to make a purchase?
Where is a supply-chain issue starting before it becomes a costly problem?
Individually, these decisions may seem small. Together, they can have a major impact on the bottom line. McKinsey estimates that end-to-end AI transformation can improve retail EBITDA by 4%–10%.
So where is AI actually making a difference today, and what does it take to get real value from it?
@Aaron Donnelly, CPA, FCA, takes a closer look at how retailers are using AI to improve operations and profitability, and why having the right data behind it matters.

An employee crosses a line.
A donor expects an exception.
A board member ignores a boundary.
It may feel easier to let it go. But when an exception goes unaddressed long enough, it can quietly become the new standard.
For leaders, difficult conversations aren’t just about resolving an uncomfortable situation. They help define what an organization will tolerate, what it values, and what happens the next time the same issue comes up.
So how do you address a difficult situation without damaging an important relationship or making things worse?
@Zacharia Waxler, CPA, shares a practical framework for approaching the conversations leaders would often rather avoid, including how to prepare, what to say, and how to move forward productively.

America has a storage problem. For real estate investors, that problem has become a multibillion-dollar business …read more
One in three Americans turns to self-storage at some point. And what starts as a temporary place to keep a few extra belongings often turns into a recurring monthly payment.
That behavior has helped build a $21 billion industry with characteristics investors tend to like: recurring revenue, relatively low labor requirements, and demand that can hold up across market cycles.
It’s no surprise that self-storage has attracted everyone from first-time operators to some of the country’s largest REITs.
But what actually makes the economics of self-storage so compelling? And does the opportunity still make sense for investors looking to enter the market today?
@Ben Spielman, CPA, breaks down the business model, the numbers behind it, and what investors should consider before jumping in.

What if you could defer taxes on a $10 million gain without reinvesting the full $20 million sale price? That’s one of …read more
That’s one of the key differences between a 1031 exchange and an Opportunity Zone investment.
Sell an asset for $20 million with a $10 million basis, and a 1031 exchange generally requires you to reinvest the full $20 million to fully defer the gain. With an Opportunity Zone fund, only the $10 million gain needs to be reinvested.
And starting in 2027, Opportunity Zones are getting even more attractive.
New rules introduce a rolling five-year tax deferral, a permanent 10% basis step-up after five years, and the potential for tax-free appreciation after a 10-year hold.
For investors sitting on a significant capital gain, it may be time to take another look at Opportunity Zones.
Aaron Galster, CPA, and Aron Pinson, CFA, break down what’s changing, how the new rules work, and where Opportunity Zone funds may fit into a broader tax strategy.

And the new $1,700 federal SGO tax credit is already raising big questions.
How will the Treasury interpret the 90% spending requirement?
What counts for donor reporting?
How will income verification work?
What happens when SGOs operate across multiple states?
The answers could shape how this program works long before the first credit is claimed.
In our latest article, @Yisroel Kilstein, CPA breaks down what Treasury’s early preview may signal for SGOs, states, donors, and schools.

Without a well-structured partnership agreement, even the strongest relationships can unravel without warning — and they do, every day.
As a business grows, unanswered questions become harder to avoid.
Who has decision-making authority?
How are profits, losses, and responsibilities shared?
What happens if a partner wants out?
A well-structured partnership agreement helps turn alignment into governance, and gives owners a clear framework for roles, risk, continuity, and exit planning.
Roth&Co partner @Shulem Rosenbaum, CPA/ABV explains why the right agreement is the smartest investment partners can make before building together.

And for families paying yeshiva or private school tuition, it could be.
The new federal scholarship tax credit is designed to send more scholarship dollars into K–12 education through Scholarship Granting Organizations, or SGOs.
But there’s an important catch:
This is not a credit for paying your own child’s tuition.
And whether families actually feel the benefit depends on how the program is implemented.
Will it create real tuition relief?
Or will the dollars get absorbed before they reach parents?
In our latest article, @Yisroel Kilstein, CPA breaks down how the credit works, why it matters, and what families, schools, donors, and SGOs should be watching before 2027.
